Dr. Gary K. Bertsch
Founder and Chairman

Dr. Gary Bertsch is the Founding Director of the Center for International Trade and Security at the University of Georgia and led the Center for 22 years through 2009. The Center conducts research, teaching, and assistance globally to promote trade, economic prosperity and security from offices in Athens, Georgia and Washington, D.C. Dr. Bertsch is a University Professor Emeritus, having served 40 years as a professor of political science and international affairs at the University of Georgia, and earning the highest distinction of "University Professor" for his longstanding contributions to the University's mission.

Dr. Bertsch is an elected Life Member of the New York-based Council on Foreign Relations. He is Co-founder and Co-director of the Delta Prize for Global Understanding, an annual award funded by Delta Airlines whose recipients include Jimmy Carter, Desmond Tutu, Mikhail Gorbachev, Sadako Ogata, Vaclav Havel, Gertrude Mongella, Ted Turner, Nelson Mandela, Martti Ahtisaari and Mohamed ElBaradei. He has been a presenter at the Boao Forum for Asia and other international conferences and conventions. He has appeared on CNN, CCTV, Al Jazeera and other global news networks. Dr. Bertsch serves as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at China Foreign Affairs University in Beijing. He has authored or edited over 20 books, including Export Controls in Transition and International Cooperation on Nonproliferation Export Controls.
